Diary of a Mad Author: Welcome!
This will be the most-frequently updated part of the site, with links to relevant reviews, stories, developments, accounts of the joys and tensions that result as my very first book, on a topic as important to me as anything, enters the world.
My name is Brian Doherty, author of This is Burning Man, a book of history and reportage on the most fascinating, confusing, and life-affirming development on the American cultural scene, the art festival/experiment in alternative community known as Burning Man. See "What It's All About" link from the main page for a longer discussion of the basics of the book.
I am a senior editor at Reason magazine, and a resident of Los Angeles, California. This year I will be attending my 10th Burning Man. I also have an almost-never-updated personal zine devoted to books and music at surrender6.blogspot.com
While the book is not officially out for another couple of weeks, an early linkable review has already shown up at GothicRevue.com. Here it is.
Further updates on the panic attacks and maniacal bursts of joy of new authorhood to follow as events require. First sign of madness: obsessive checking of Amazon.com sales ranks. Highest so far noted: 4,263 at 2:30 p.m. pacific, July 18.
