Release Party Tomorrow Night...
...at the Odeon Bar, 3223 Mission Street, San Francisco. (It's where Valencia meets Mission. Yes, despite being parallel for much of their run, they do meet.) I'm trying to pull together dramatic readings and re-enactments involving characters from the book other than me. If that doesn't work out, well, at least you'll still have me. I doubt anything showlike will begin until 10 p.m. or so though I will very likely be there getting, um, "prepared" before then. Flash, one of the book's most compelling characters, will be tending bar.
Daniel Browning Smith, the Amazing Rubberboy--who plays a small but amusing role in the book--is promising a performance as part of the whole deal. I would certainly love to see each and every one of you there.
I saw the book in a store for the first time Sunday, at the wonderful Skylight Books at 1818 N. Vermont in Los Feliz. They had it both front and center in the front window, up near the counter, and well-displayed in the new nonfiction section. This was a very, very, very good feeling. I've done readings at Skylight before, reading from my contribution to the wonderful Science Fiction Film Reader, edited by Gregg Rickman. (Forrest Ackerman showed up. Some of you will understand what a nifty thing that was.) And I'll be proud to do a reading there again, for This is Burning Man, on Sunday Sept. 26.
