Hitting the Road, Top 10 in Canada...

A brutal week of touring in support of This is Burning Man begins on Monday, when I jet into Portland (with at least one character from the book planned to be in tow) for a Monday night appearance at the fabled and most excellent Powell's Bookstore, the 3723 SE Hawthorne Blvd. location, for a reading and signing starting at 7:30 p.m.

The next night, Tuesday Sept. 21, I'll be in Seattle for a reading and signing at the University Bookstore, 4326 University Way Northeast, at 7 p.m.

After the bookstore event, I, noted character from the book Chicken John, and a collection of archival videos of Burning Man history dating back to the earliest desert days will be holding court at the Rendezvous Club, 2322 Second Avenue. There is no cover charge for that or, of course, for any of the bookstore events. I would very much love to see all Pacific northwest burners and other interested parties.

I will be ending the week, and the tour, with events in Berkeley at Cody's Books, 2454 Telegraph, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday Sept. 24, and then back home to L.A. for a triumphant return to the wonderful Skylight Books, 1818 North Vermont Ave. (slightly north of Hollywood, slightly south of Franklin) on Sunday Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.

The book continues to get chattered about in that intricate web of photons known as the World Wide Web:

*I'm a top-10 bestseller in Canada according to Canadian magazine Maclean's, here reported in the London Free Press.

*Time magazine's San Francisco correspondent Chris Taylor likes my book very much, he reports on his blog the Daily Blah. An "excellent history," he says, and the Luce empire hires only the most perceptive.

*A Metro Santa Cruz article on this year's Burning Man talks about art cars and quotes book character Robert Burke about art car's role in the event, from the book.

*Nicolas Ritoux, a cool reporter I met out at Black Rock this year, quotes me and the book in this French-language report from this year's Burning Man, at the cyberpress.ca site.

*Blogger Sara Ryan realizes why there weren't any library holds on the book a couple of week ago.

*A Metafilter thread on Burning Man says nice things way down.
