New York City!, chaos, and radio
Seems as if I'm always blogging in a hurry these days, because I'm always leaving town to bring the wonderful message of THIS IS BURNING MAN to the people far and wide.
San Francisco's Lab event last Thurs. was sweet, and I thank all of you who braved the cold and damp to make it. Kevin Mathieu asked me when the promised excised portions of the book will appear here; as I explained to him, and now to you, most of it--which I cut after the first draft stage--needs more work than I anticipated for my superego to allow it to be seen, but it is in the works and I'll alert you here when portions start going up.
Right after the event I joined Chicken John's Chaos Cabaret for a two-city tour to Portland and Seattle (where I had such a great time doing THIS IS BURNING MAN readings in late September), with wonderful and talented people, many of whom have pasts, presents, or futures that intersect with Burning Man. It was the most fun I've had since my last extended book reading tour, and a reminder of what a hold the gypsy-entertainer life that Burning Man helped expose me to has on my soul.
Tomorrow I head to New York City for one of those joint Reason CHOICE anthology and THIS IS BURNING MAN events. As usual, in these the Burning Man reading portion is far shorter than it would be at a solo event, but you should still come. The details:
Greenwich Village Barnes & Noble
396 Ave of the Americas at 8th Street
Friday, Nov. 12, starts at 7 p.m.
Featuring Nick Gillespie, editor-in-chief of Reason and editor of Choice; Brian Doherty, senior editor of Reason and author of This Is Burning Man; and Joe Bob Briggs, contributor to Choice and author of Profoundly Disturbing: Shocking Movies That Changed History!
The event is moderated by Joe Garden, staff writer for The Onion and coauthor of Citizen You: Helping Your Government Help Itself. C-SPAN intends to tape it, and I'll certainly let you know when that will air. (Not live, I'm told.) This is not an excuse to not come see it, and me, yourself.
While we are talking about things on the air, scroll down a bit to the Monday Nov. 1 entry here for my appearance with Michael Duffy on Australian radio talking pure Burning Man.
